Why only 90 minutes?
Because more is not always better - if you have all the music in the world at your disposal, you are only snacking. Forcing you to think what you want to take with you makes you really think about which music you like most at this point in time.
Why only 4 mixtapes?
Similar to the 90 minutes limit - less is more! It forces you to curate your songs more carefully and also to better experience the chosen music - like when you were on that roadtrip with only 2 tapes in the rental car, or travelling with only 3 tapes to use in your walkman and the songs on those tapes became the soundtrack of the trip.
But I can still play my other songs on Spotify?
Yes - we are not changing anything to your Spotify library and we are not a music player - but we help you to create a special set of mixtapes.
Why do I need this app - I can already create mixtapes in Spotify?
Yes - but we think here the endless possibilities of the app work against us. If you can choose everything, you are never really choosing; by adding some (artificial) limitations, we need to think harder!
Can I edit mixtapes that were shared with me?
No - shared mixtapes are read-only within RetroReverse. When someone shares a mixtape with you, it's like receiving a physical mixtape as a gift: it's curated and complete. You can listen to it and enjoy it, but you can't modify the track list or change the name through our app. This preserves the original creator's vision. If you want to make your own version, you can create a new mixtape and manually add the same tracks.
Can I edit shared mixtapes directly in Spotify?
Technically yes - once claimed, the mixtape exists in your Spotify account as a regular playlist. However, RetroReverse won't allow you to modify it through our interface. We recommend respecting the mixtape as a gift and keeping it as the creator intended. If you really want to customize it, consider it inspiration to create your own mixtape instead!
